17th-18th century example refurbished for use in the Greta Raj period. British subjugation was complete and an army under British rule, comprising mostly Indian infantry was formed to quell regional uprisings. Indian arsenals provided arms, often ancient as this example. Its scabbard is recovered in British Green Khaki. Kipling’s Gunga Din, published in 1890, is set in this period which also included the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857.
