14 1/2" blade of fine quality. Wedge section with curved edge and dentil/scallop back. Right side with five marks, probably indicating the donors family. The forte of chiseled pewter. Ivory grip with finely faceted and banded steel ferrules. The top surmounted by an iron figure of perfunctory craftsmanship depicting a man standing with outstretched arms. The right hand opened and the left clutching a trident. A companion example is known in which the figure holds a wheel. These two evidently are the only such examples in existence. The ram dao was used in animal sacrifices to the goddess Kali. The trident is one of Kali's attributes. Extraordinary example.
