C.1800 or earlier. Southern Chinese or Tibetan. Copper or copper rich bronze, hollow cast with the bottom sealed with a plate. 3 3/4" height depicting Siddhartha Buddha in lotus position, meditating. Good patina with brush strokes indicating that it was fire gilt originally, the gold now worn away from handling. The sealed bottom may indicate the presence of sacred fetish material contained within in accordance with the Lamaist Buddhist tradition.
