19th century. 5 1/4" spear point blade with broad fuller each side, scalloped ahead of the ricasso. One side of the ricasso with brass inlaid crown over crossed swords and cipher, perhaps a date. Spirally fluted black horn grip with twisted wire wrap in the military taste, probably indicating it was made for an English officer. Brass pommel and guard. Original black leather scabbard. Evidently intended as a personal defense weapon as the scallops are blade catchers and knife assaults by bandits and thugs were common.
