Danelaw England. Rounded face band with delicate incised medial flanked by hand cut hatched bands, interestingly both cut in the same direction rather than opposing. Fine detail and excellent mottled patina. Vikings exchanged rings on the pommel of the groom’s sword. Copper is rarely found. Vikings were master metallurgists and the use of unalloyed copper is specific to Viking culture. Alloying to bronze provides greater strength and durability, so the choice to not do so must have had significance, probably spiritual, to the maker. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
