Bronze. Danelaw England. Broad band with delicate raised edges flanking a pair of hatched or roped bands. Fine detail and excellent mottled patina. Vikings exchanged rings on the pommel of the groom’s sword. Vikings were master metallurgists and the use of unalloyed copper is specific to Viking culture. Alloying to bronze provides greater strength and durability, so the choice to not do so must have had significance, probably spiritual, to the maker. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
