This massive broadsword was made specifically to breach the armor of an opponent. The hilt is proportioned to accommodate use with one or two hands and it is balanced to be effective either way. When used with one hand, a shield would be held in the other. When used with two hands, every blow must be calculated to finish without leaving an opening for the adversary. Swords of this size could breach armor, particularly of the extremities and neck, by distorting the overlapping plates resulting in an opening which could be penetrated. The blade is inscribed with the INRI, the "charges" nailed to the cross above Jesus at the time of his crucifixion, and pledge the dedication of the sword's owner to the Christian Church while recognizing his mortality. 40 1/2" blade length.
