The Misericorde or dagger of mercy is well documented in literature but surviving examples are practically unknown. Designed to administer the fatal heart thrust to a downed armored opponent, this example is eminently suited to penetrate between armor plates and the padding beneath. It has a blade which is flat on one side with a flattened medial on the other. It is tapered through its length, with the tip thickened for strength. Its robust grip assures good purchase to the gauntleted hand. Its name derives from the Italian misericordia, mercy or act of mercy. Blade length: 8 1/2 Provenance: William Locke Collection
