French & Indian War through the Revolution. Classic American simplification of its French or English counterpart. See Neumann 115.PA for a French example of identical form with elaborate details. Also see Neumann 73.PA and 79.PA for related American examples. Medially ridged leaf shaped point on conical socket with integral side straps. It is mounted with a cross guard with acorn terminals. The original haft is cut to 6” total length and the upper portion shows several nail holes, undoubtedly from having been mounted with flags on regimental or government display, to which it owes its preservation. The head has a light film of preservative over pin prick oxidation. Elegant in its simplicity.
