Western, possibly California. 65 3/4" length with tapered wood haft decorated with three segments of trade ribbon over hide wrap. Elegant stone head bound with red cord. Shows dark patina throughout. The decoration complete and sound. Probably late 19th century. See Miles fig. 13.8 for two examples identified as "Northwest California dance wands observed only in ceremonial and display use, but potentially stabbing weapons". Rare and very dramatic display.
