Important tool and weapon, many of which were used in the Revolution. See Neumann p.118. 14” length with forged hook form blade. Hard wood grip turned in two stages with chisel cut top plate and peened tang. Grip with opened age cracks. The blade with light rust growth. These were farm tools, brought to war to construct the blinds from which American riflemen sniped on British Red Coats. The blinds obscured and to some extent, protected the riflemen, providing needed cover as the loading cycle for a rifle was about six times as long as for a musket.
