18 5/8” overall with a fine thin leaf-shaped blade. Thickened bolster and tapered faceted socket with a flared base. Dark patina with original two sharpened edges and light tool finish to the blade. One small area old raised oxidation to one side long arrested and easily removed if desired. The form is Congolese which by the 19th century was a blend of the many tribes which comprised the slaving forces. The light weight makes it a slashing as well as thrusting weapon suitable for parrying as well. The goal, to capture full grow men without inflicting any wounds which would not heal before reaching the market in East Africa required special skills and equipment.
