This is a rare example of a morion made in one piece, in the Spanish or North Italian (which was under Spanish rule) style. It was produced in Germany and bears the Nuremberg town mark. It was made for export as was much of Germanys armor production. In Germany, the burgonet was the helmet of choice and morions, when made for domestic use, were of German form with the brim deeply curved in profile and tall skull with low comb. This example accords precisely in detail with those produced in Italy and lacking the mark, could not be distinguished from them. Armor identifiably produced in Spain is quite rare, though the demand for armor in Spain in the 16th century was substantial, resulting in the majority being imported. Most were unmarked, but this example gives an insight into its origin as well as its area of service. Height, 11.
