Of the improved pattern introduced about the time of the English Civil Wars. The heavy two piece skull is joined with a riveted lapped seam flanked by pairs of decorative lines with an additional pair of lines around the base. A three bar face guard is attached to the brim. A peaked one piece guard with sunk borders, rolled edge and faux simulated lames protects the neck. It was pierced at the armory with a hanging hole. Rolled edge pierced cheek pieces protect the sides. All exterior surfaces are coated with black paint or pitch. Height: 13 1/2" Provenance: Hengrave Hall, near Bury St. Edmund, Suffolk
