This sword served a French officer, most likely at War with Spain and possibly into the Seven Years (French & Indian) War. It is virtually identical to the example illustrated as 200.S in Neumanns Swords and Blades of the American Revolution. The brass hilt exhibits wear from repeated polishing as is typical of military swords and insignia which served in full dress, as at court. The silver wire wrapped grip bears the residue, between the wires, from repeated polishing. The blade is devoid of decoration and of substantial fighting proportions.
