Iron, 8 ½” length with single edged wedge section blade and lapped seam conical socket. Crudely made, reflective of the horror of that war which leveled thousands of villages and resulted in the death of millions. The urgency of the war is evident as the socket has been so hastily made the bottom half is partially opened. Found in the Lautertal Valley, Southern Germany, on the site of a village ruined in the war and no longer in existence. A grim relic of one of the most destructive and deadliest wars in European history.
