8th-9th Century AD.  Size 8. Gilt bronze of exceptional quality. 2.2mm rounded face band with stepped flared shoulders. Raised oval bezel with 5 incised dots representing the five wounds of Christ. Medieval rings were usually sold with the bezels plain for the buyer to inscribe a mark or pattern to serve as a signet. Most pilgrim’s rings were purchased en route and produced in cottage industries along the way. This ring was produced at the source and hand incised, crudely, by the owner. The heavy 24karat gold overlay restored for modern wear. Gift box and certificate of authenticity included
