These small globular pendants were popular among common women in ancient Rome. Some have been described as prostitutes’ pendants and that view is widely published on the internet. This example is 7.7mm, over ¼” diameter of faceted tear shape with a raised radially scored disk to the base, a reference to the Rota Fortunae, the Wheel of Fortune. It has been professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored. It is suspended on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear and is gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
