Found by metal detector around 2000 at Ypres (Belgium) scene of some of the most intense fighting with English and French bringing the German advance to a stalemate. Made of aluminum salvaged from ordnance. Size slightly under 8  of thick section, 5.4mm width. The surface hand cut with a series of x’s or saltires. Gray surface oxidation. Probably made for his sweetheart but never made it out of the trench.
