Hand forged iron, 21 1/2" diameter with rolled edge. Low conical form with slightly swelled umbo. The edge with a row of liner rivets. Original leather arm bands to the back (both complete but damaged). The front decorated with seven figures of mounted warriors in helmets and mail, some with shields. The field decorated in bands in the Pisan style with a scattered arms, musical instruments, jugs, etc. 19th century or very possible earlier as the umbo shows lamination from forged construction. Evidently made for parade or ceremonial purposes as a replacement for and likely used with a group of 16th century originals which today would be valued in the $25,000 or more range.
