From the William Fagan Ltd. Collection

Flemish, or Dutch. Thirty Years Wars period. Large hilt of characteristic form. See Valentine #20, which example was in our own collection. Recurved cross guard with large side rings over circular guards with domed snapped in plates pierced with a geometric matrix. Inverted pear shaped pommel. Wire wrapped grip. 38" blade with tapered ricasso. The forte with chiseled marks flanking and abbreviated motto. Large crisp King's Head maker's marks each side. Dark staining mixed with old oxidation throughout. A good example of these very large horseman's swords.
