Late 19th century. 8 1/2” length plus the wrist loop. Braided leather over spring shaft and lead striking tip. Obviously used and well-worn surface soiling but complete. Used by “crimps” who supplied crews to sailing ships by preying on drunken sailors on the waterfront who were knocked unconscious and handed over with forged papers. That practice continued on the Pacific coast into the early 20th century and the Alaskan Gold Rush.
