Forged iron, 7 3/4” height. Socket with shield shaped eye with stabilizing spur below. Medially ridged rectangular blade with cusped top edge to catch a blade. As well, the top of the socket is not thickened for a peen as would be a working axe. Excavated condition with considerable original surface intact. The thinness of the bit distinguishes this axe from its working (tool) counterparts. It is made for use against mail and leather armor.
