Classic example. 21” length. See Fischer #44. The Tikar controlled trade routed of the Hausa and Fulani to the coast, exacting tribute for passage. The trade, presumably included slaves and ivory. After 1800, the affected traders banned together and aided by Europeans, fought the Tikar. With no modern weapons, the Tikar were defeated and scattered as they themselves became the prey of the slavers. Large numbers became victims of the transatlantic slave trade. Reportedly, a large proportion of the males committed suicide on the slave ships.
