Iron hilt with slightly asymmetrical shell guards and large circular lower guard arms. The guard, quillon block and pommel pierced with foliate tendrils in bands. The knuckle bow with relief foliate motif. Steel wire wrapped grip. 30 1/2" concave faced triangular blade decorated with baroque scrolling ribbons and foliage. The forte with a little lamination evidence indicating wrought steel composition. Excellent throughout for the period. Type carried by military officers in the field as well as off duty.
