First quarter of the 18th century, the period of the 1715 uprising. Iron hilt of well-rounded form, characteristic of the early century styling and taste. Flattened bars, pierced and finely scalloped panels in the Glasgow style. The forward panels each with an scroll bar. Wire wrapped leather covered grip with broad turban form knots. 33 ¼” d.e. blade of flattened diamond section at the forte, transitioning to outward shallow rounded section for the balance. An early example which likely served in the ’45 as well.
