1950’s, six figures in thick gauche on linen pattern ground. Framed to 6 3/8” x 23 7/8”. Similar to woodblock figures in style and colors, adapted to 1950’s Western taste. Interest in things Japanese grew exponentially after WWII with the return of GI’s who had fought in the Pacific and on Japanese soil. Japanese patterns were introduced into table wear, clothing, curtains, and other everyday items. Display of Japanese swords and flags were common in private homes. This framed wall hanging is an example of a 50’s art catering to that taste. It was made in either Japan or America and framed here. As 50’s as a poodle skirt and a find for the 50’s vintage fan.
