Bronze, large for these at 1 ¾’ height. Modeled as a raptor with spread wings on a bun-shaped base which is the original form of the gold weight in the 19th century. Gold dust was the currency of the slave and ivory trade. These weights were originally used to measure it for transactions. They represent proverbs that were integral to the Ashanti culture and later, were exchanged as gifts.
