Hilt and sheath of brass, engraved with abstracted and stylized foliage motifs. The circular arm loop with rolled edge, intact as made as rarely found. The hilt appears to be made from a small vase with the base mounting a six point engraved brass figure in resin. 12 ¼” broad d.e. double fullered blade of sword proportions. The brass with uniform patina throughout verifying the originality of its construction. The vase is likely a trophy of a raid. Ex: Weller & Dufty, Birmingham England, 24/25 August 1988, Lot 1458.
