Bronze, cast and chased in minute detail as the crescent moon, double-edged, with baluster tips representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon, below a stepped cone surrounded by five triangles of domed nubs. The bottom formed as two conjoined crescents with a further nub at the junction. The field with a raised knot motif flanked by nubs. Each element represents a celestial body and the group together, a celestial event. Viking worship involved the heavenly bodies on which they relied for guidance when sailing. Celestial activities and interactions were ascribed to activities among the Gods. The meaning of this one is lost to us but would have been of great supernatural significance to its owner.
