Probably North African. 27 ¼” octagonal barrel, tapered through its length and proofed at the breach. Arabesque form rear sight and bead front sight. Wood stock with a decorative iron overlay to the comb, nicely carved in stylized Arabic calligraphy (?). Iron lock and trigger guard. Surface rusted overall and the forestock mostly lost to fire. Probably a battlefield pick up, possibly as official evidence in a military inquiry. Purchased at Christie's, London in the 1980s.
