Forged iron, 16 5/8” length. Rectangular section tapered side guards flanking double faceted swelled medial hand grips. Elongated triangular blade with diamond section armor piercing point and double raised segments with floral roots. Probably watered steel as most of these early examples are. The surface gray with scattered pitting and a few localized erosions. These are usually encountered very worn from the repeated polishing conditions. This example is typical and of better than average quality for the period.
