Leather and mail armor period. A horseman’s lance with bodkin form point for piercing iron mail and leather armor and corresponding to the bodkin arrows of the period. Its slender profile allowed the delivery of a fatal thrust followed by rapid withdrawal and recovery. 7” length with open seam conical secured with an iron pin, still intact.  Anglo-Saxons inhabited much of England while Vikings occupied the balance, known as Danelaw. The Norman invasion of 1066 brought new rule to England and this lance may well have served in the battles against the Norman invaders.
