Meiji Period for soup or rice. C.1900. 4 3/8" diameter, deeply dished with high flared foot. Matching cover with slightly conical grip matching the foot. Black body color with deep red interiors. The rims and grip edge gilt. The top decorated with two diving cranes, one gold and one silver, over gold conifers. All gold decoration is true gold in a lacquer matrix. Cranes are especially auspicious, bringing long life and prosperity. Produced by the true lacquer (not paint) process which takes months of layering and drying. Additional details to the purchaser.
