Early La Tene period. Bronze, roughly circular, about ¾” diameter modeled as a human face well rendered with eyes, nose mouth and chin. The image of a stocky individual as the descendants of the Celts demonstrate today. Celtic shields were made of cross laminated wood secured with nails or studs such as this. The detail of this stud, of which there would have been several matching, suggests a warrior of high rank and achievement.
