9 5/8” length, triangular bayonet broken short and in excavated condition. Pattern conforming to the Confederate Fayetteville bayonet with 3” socket with locking ring. Original collection note stating Revolutionary War Bayonet found on Yorktown Beach by William Mills, Newport News VA while fishing 10/2015. Owing to its strategic position, there were battles at Yorktown in both the Revolution and Civil War, so the error is understandable. This is definitely a Civil War bayonet, probably Confederate.
