Cast iron, French or German. 24 1/2” height. Decorated in high relief with an oval central vignette of a castle under Siege with Turkish tents in the foreground. A foot battle scene fills the ground. The defenders with period arms and armor fight the scantily clad attackers. Portrait of the Devil below and goat-horned female above, both flanked by nude males. The broad border with alternate panels of Renaissance armor and fruit. Roped edge with rivets within. Reverse with an iron loop for wall hanging. Fine genuine patina and no damage. This is a finely detailed copy of a magnificent original, evidently Venetian. Our FNS7830 is a mate varying in details. These are evidently copies from an original series depicting various battles with the Ottoman Empire.
