Bronze, probably silver plated originally. Size 9 1/4 to 9 1/2 of tear shape with tall oval bezel mounted with a cabochon cut natural carnelian. The bezel edges hand-engraved in bands and the shoulders engraved with floral motifs. Some wear from use, otherwise excellent for the period. well worth replating! Ex: Schindler’s Antiques, King Street, Charleston, Purchased about 1980. It was common for cavalry troopers to remove their rings before battle as they marginally compromised the purchase of the sword grip.
