Standard 1840 pattern as carried by Union Sergents during the Civil War and after. This example marked US/ AHC/ 1860, all weak on the right as struck, dating it to Civil War service. Reverse with markings obscured, almost surely Ames, which are invariably only faintly marked. Hilt good dark patina and no defects. Blade with smooth gray patina.
