Type which served militias, both North and South, which comprised a significant portion of the fighting forces during the war. 26 1/2" rounded face blade, plain with glossy patina and original cross polish to the ricasso. Bronze hilt, originally gilt with "bow tie" form guard, shield shaped langets. Variant form plumed helmet with grill visor pommel. Slender reeded bone grip with 3/8” by 1 ½” chip out along the side and good patina. Brass mounted leather scabbard excellent for the period and a little shrunk from age.
