8th-11th century AD. Silvered octagonal bronze amulet, about ½” width, inscribed with an eight-point star on the hatched ground. That figure combines Christian belief with Pagan mythology which descended from the Dark Ages. (Many Pagan beliefs survive today in the form of superstitions.) The Roman Rota Fortuna is combined with the Star of Bethlehem in this figure, which is known on amulets, rings, and in art. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear.
