U.S. COAST GUARD OFFICERS SWORD

Would date to about WWI or slightly earlier. Gilt hilt of M.1852 Naval pattern with pierced oak foliage guard with U S C G in ribbon. Wire wrapped shark skin covered grip. 30 slightly curved s.e. broad fullered blade finely etched 2/3 its length with foliage, eagle, sword knot, U S C G, fouled anchor, nautical trophies, stars & bars on anchor and owners name. The blade back etched 1/2 length with foliage tendril. Gilt inset proof to base. Excellent throughout for the period with original blade seat. Minor wear and age darkening to the hilt gold overlay. Original scabbard fittings lacking the leather survive as well. Only example of this pattern we have ever offered.
