ITALIAN RIGHT PAULDRON C.1580

Defense for the right shoulder and upper chest.  Single plate, 11 width with rolled and roped edge and eight brass covered iron rivets (surfaces worn).  Etched with an oval panel enclosed in scrolls and foliage, depicting a classical warrior with drawn sword.  The outer edge with bands of roping flanking stylized foliage between three ovals containing sea serpents.  Etched decoration quite prolific and weak in places including the central panel.  The plate wrapping around the vertical central ridge with the rear expansion removed.  Any original etched armor may be considered quite rare.
