Probably Meiji but quality mostly seen with earlier examples. 4 5/8 diameter of plain tapered form emphasizing simplicity. Chocolate body color with black and shades of brown lacquer in a random dribbled surface matrix of thin hairs. That application required an advanced technique as the basis for lacquer work is building up in layers with considerable drying. These overlays are done in a single application of lacquer which defies the viscosity of the material and was probably achieved through heating. To those very familiar with lacquer as were the Japanese, the effect would be halting. Perfect condition and lovely to any taste.
