First quarter of the 18th century, the period of the 1715 uprising. Iron hilt of well-rounded form, characteristic of the early century styling and taste. Flattened bars, pierced and finely scalloped panels in the Glasgow style. The forward panels each with an S scroll bar. Wire wrapped leather covered grip with broad turban form knots. 33 ¼” d.e. blade of flattened diamond section at the forte, transitioning to outward shallow rounded section for the balance. An early example which likely served in the ’45 as well.
