Large 20 5/8" diameter of deeply domed form with rolled edge and mounted with four domed bosses securing the leather arm straps. Unusually heavy at 5:5, the thick brass both chiseled and embossed to produce exceptional depth decoration. The perimeter band of six lozenge shaped inscription (repeated) panels alternating with a panels of animal kills, mounted warrior, including some mystical beasts on horseback. Each panel flanked by circular panels of a single animal or noble. The entire field densely fill with battle engagements, animals and mystical figures too numerous and varied to enumerate. The bosses each chiseled five animal cartouches. Very unusual technique finely executed for a lovely result. Probably made for a royal guard unit as it is fine enough for royal presence yet substantial to withstand an attack.
