Iconic example of this rare type which are dated variously from late 18th century to mid 19th. 27” broadsword blade with low medial each side, replicating the 15th century originals. Decorated overall. The forte in panels of stylized foliage with intersections suggesting faces. The balance in Thuluth calligraphy with a snake at the point. Elaborately shaped iron hilt with cross form pommel and monster form quillon terminals. This example with silver decoration to the front including a face at the cross center. The silver worn and the pommel with a dent.  At least one reference states that these are made with undecorated hilts and we found no others with decoration, further distinguishing this example.
