14th-15th century for tournament. Bronze, probably gilt originally. 2 ½” total length, oak leaf shaped with four circular holes (probably armorial significance) and incised decorative broad radial bands. Originally bright and shiny, these were suspended along the reins of a horse participating in a tournament. They identified the knight or noble ride and reflected his status in their quality and numbers.  Surface textured from burial.
