Probably Persian from the Caucasus, 19th century. Cylindrical, 2 5/8” diameter, finely made in two tightly fitting pieces. The top and sides intricately engraved and inlaid with niello, a favorite technique in the Caucasus. The work of distinctively Persian style with flowing tendrils and shoots. Undoubtedly gold or silver overlaid originally. Few small losses but excellent with fine rich patina. The bottom with scratched in 2161. Probably used for valuables/jewelry.
