20 5/8” triangular section blade from triangular bayonet of the 1870s. Triangular iron guard with straight cross and mushroom form pommel. Ribbed wood grip. Blackened overall with some mottled age patina. The blade with some shallow nicks, perhaps from use on the stage. A hundred years ago or more, every town had an opera house for live entertainment and each had a store of wardrobes and props. Much of the antique arms and armor which survives today owes its existence to service in those theaters.
